[MAR 24] Socialism Reading Group: Exploring the Possibilities for Liberatory Spiritual Community

Join DSA Cleveland for part two (of two) of this month’s educational programming! This one will be at the Cleveland Public Library, Martin Luther King, Jr. Branch – 1962 Stokes Blvd., Cleveland, OH 44106 starting at 3:45 pm, on Mar. 24th.

Two readings for this month:

1) Mary Ann Tolbert – A New Teaching w. Authority
This reading examines the problems and pitfalls throughout history of treating biblical texts as normative moral & spiritual guides (especially in matters of equality, anti-oppression, and social-justice), and explores the possibilities of how to reinterpret scripture and reconstruct Christian communities in ways which are more liberatory and life-giving.

2) Robin Wall Kimmerer – “Skywoman Falling” (from “Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, & the Teachings of Plants”)
Kimmerer melds the influences of her heritage as a member of the Potawatomi Nation with the insights of contemporary botany, biology, & ecology to offer reflections on how we might as a species establish more wholesome spiritual community and healing relationships with one another and with the Earth.
