The Cleveland chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America will be holding their first ever “Brake Light Clinic” from 1 to 7 pm on Saturday, September 22nd at Pilgrim Congregational Church (2592 W 14th St, Cleveland, OH) and from 1 to 6pm on Sunday, September 23rd at First Unitarian Church of Cleveland, 21600 Shaker Blvd, Shaker Heights, OH). Originally conceived by the New Orleans chapter of the DSA, the clinic is designed to help community members avoid unnecessary interactions with police by repairing the broken headlights and taillights of attendees for free. Since the initial New Orleans clinic, the event has been staged by numerous other chapters across the country to great success.
All community members are welcome to drop in at any time during either clinic and have their brake lights repaired under supervision by licensed mechanics. The DSA has stockpiled a sizable number of the most common bulbs and will be replacing them free of charge. We are conducting the event to strengthen community safety and welfare, and to help attendees avoid unnecessary interaction with a legal system which we believe is disproportionately punitive towards the poor and communities of color. Stop on by and we’ll fix your lights!
